PowerBook G4 15" (FireWire 800): RAM upgrade issues

CNET staff

Over the past few weeks, a number of readers have reported problems with third-party RAM upgrades and the new 15" PowerBook G4. Symptoms have included random crashes and hard freezes, as well as problems starting up. Removing third-party RAM upgrade chips often fixes the problem.

A number of Authorized Service Providers have speculated that the new 15" PowerBook G4 is quite sensitive to "bad" RAM -- even RAM that appears to work on other computers, and even other PowerBook G4 models.
