Postini is expanding further beyond its e-mail security roots. The San Carlos, Calif.-based hosted messaging security provider on Monday plans to announce a partnership with ScanSafe to add Web filtering to its menu of services, a ScanSafe representative said. Postini expanded into the instant-messaging security area last year through a deal with IMlogic, now part of Symantec. The new Web filtering service should be available in the third quarter.

ScanSafe is a Web filtering specialist with customers including Conde Nast and BMW. The London-based company already has partnerships in place with companies such as MessageLabs, a Postini rival. ScanSafe technology scans Web traffic for viruses, spyware and adware and also allows filtering based on Web addresses, which means a customer can block access to specific Web sites. To use the services, a customer would route Web traffic through a Postini data center.
