Mobile World Congress 2010 has revealed a strange new phenomenon in mobile manufacturing, the mini version of flagship smartphone models.
In truth, Nokia started it last year with the announcement of the N97 mini, but MWC 2010 has revealed even more of these pint-sized smartphones. HTC has the HD Mini, Sony Ericsson has the X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro. Even LG has jumped on the bandwagon with the even though it isn't the mini version of a flagship model at all.
Let's not forget the much-rumoured iPhone Mini that some industry analysts expected last year. Would you buy a watered down iPhone if Apple made one?
A spokesperson for Sony Ericsson tried to explain that it might encourage you to own both, the big one for use during the day and the Mini as your night-time wingman, but this sounds a tad excessive to us.
Let us know what you think, is it that we're just not ready for phones with 4-inch-plus screens on them? Do you think the mini versions can be better than their maxi-sized counterparts?
