This weekend, while millions of people in the thrall of Pokemon Go crawl the streets trying to catch them all, a more select group of diehards will honor Nintendo's original Pokemon game in an annual tournament.

Competitors from 35 countries will flock to the 2016 Pokemon World Championships, taking place August 19 through 21 in San Francisco. There, they'll vie for the title of champion in Pokemon trading card, video and Pokken Tournament games -- and a share in the $500,000 purse or other prizes.
