Platinum tools to test Internet apps
Internet application developers who want to make sure their offerings work before putting them out there for the whole Net to see will soon have help from Platinum Technology.
The company is this week unveiling two new testing tools: the Final Exam Internet Test and Final Exam Internet Load Test at the Web World & Internet Expo in San Jose, California. Together the tools are designed to let developers test Web client application behavior, predict response times for clients and thresholds for servers, and help developers plan for the most appropriate hardware configurations for their applications.
The company says that Final Exam Internet Test will be the first tool to provide a capture/replay testing process for applications that use Web browsers. The tool tests such Web-specific objects as hyperlinks, HTML tables, and submit buttons. The tool works by generating a programmable script while the user is recording events and then, during replay, comparing the actual behavior to the expected behavior.
Final Exam Internet Load Test analyzes the performance of both Internet clients and servers in response to Web-user load levels specified by the developer. Tests can be scheduled in advance and can generate results from an unlimited number of "virtual" users or real users connected to the server from anywhere.
A beta test version of Final Exam Internet Test for Windows 3.1 will be available for downloading from Platinum's Web site in March. The final version for Windows 3.1 is set to ship in April, with Windows NT and Windows 95 versions following sometime in the second quarter.
Beta test versions of Final Exam Internet Load Test for SunOS and Solaris will also be available for downloading in March. The final release, as well as Windows NT and other flavors of Unix, will ship in the second quarter.
Both tools will be bundled for an introductory price of $2,995. Final Exam Internet Test will also be sold separately priced at $995 for a developer license and $295 for a tester license.
Both tools can be used in conjunction with Platinum's Final Exam Test Suite, which was unveiled last week and includes the Client/Server Test, Memory Advisor, and Test Advisor.
