You can already order a Pizza Hut pie on the phone, the website and the mobile app, but the restaurant will soon expand menu options to social media with the launch of its own interactive chatbot.
Introduced by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg at the F8 developer's conference back in April, chatbots use artificial intelligence and preprogrammed responses to automate simple tasks like composing an email, booking a trip, or ordering food.
When it arrives this fall, Pizza Hut's robot servers will let you place an order just by typing what you want into a text conversation on Facebook Messenger and Twitter. You can ask the bot for information about special promotional deals running in your area and it'll even answer frequently asked questions about dietary information, business hours and delivery areas.
There's no extra charge for using the chatbot, and Pizza Hut will confirm all orders by sending a confirmation message in the text window.
Pizza Hut's social robot will debut this fall, but the company still has a long way to go before it's ready to compete with Domino's Robotic Unit prototype.
