We've seen more and more manufacturers entering the 20-inch-plus wide-screen LCD market, so we weren't surprised when Philips announced the Brilliance 230WP7 today. And since we're used to Philips producing quality LCDs, we have high expectations.
The 230WP7 is designed for business users, and like other Philips business monitors, it comes with a software package that allows administrators to track usage hours, adjust monitor settings, reset factory settings, verify the monitor's location, and provide technical support, all over a network.
The screen boasts a 1,920x1,200 resolution and all the flexibility we could ask for in a monitor this large: it's height adjustable, and the screen tilts, swivels, and pivots between portrait and landscape modes. We're also impressed with its 8-millisecond gray-to-gray response rate, which is fast for a monitor this large.
The 230WP7's specs slightly edge out the, our favorite wide-screen monitor, but the Philips $1,499 price is about $400 more than the Dell's.
