PC gamers rejoice: Civilization VI is coming October 21

The PC-only series gets a new chapter with bigger cities and improved AI.

The latest chapter of Civilization, one of the last major game series that lives primarily on personal computers, is coming October 21, according to a trailer posted by developer Firaxis and publisher 2K Games.

The last full game in the series, created by strategy game vet Sid Meier, was 2010's Civilization V. For the new version, a description posted on the official Civilization website promises "new ways to interact with your world, expand your empire across the map, advance your culture and compete against history's greatest leaders to build a civilization that will truly stand the test of time."

Those promised features include bigger cities that span multiple tiles in the game's board-game-like grid, and new artificial intelligence for the historical figures you'll encounter, with relationships developing and changing over time.

Since the 1991 release of the first Civilization PC game, the series has shipped more than 33 million copies.
