Panther Compatibility: Scanner issues; Outlook in Classic?

Scanner issues Although we don't yet have confirmation from the developer, we have received a number of reports from readers that the third-party scanner driver Vuescan does not work properly under Panther when the scanner is connected via an Adaptec 2906 PCI SCSI card.

On a related note, after installing Panther, MacFixIt reader Zeno Guarienti could not get Twain modules or scanner drivers (such as Vuescan or SilverFast) to recognize his Epson FireWire scanner. However, he found that if he removed the Epson plug-in file from /Library/Image Capture/Devices, the scanner is recognized by Panther and all applications.

Finally, reader David Kadavy -- using a Microtek ScanMaker 8700 Pro Design -- reports that after upgrading to Panther, the ScanWizard Pro software's splash screen hangs when "Searching for Scanner Drivers." The problem occurs whether the scanner is connected to the computer using USB or FireWire.

Outlook 2001 broken in Panther Classic? Jason McDonald reports that after upgrading to Panther, Outlook 2001, which worked fine in the Classic Environment under Jaguar, no longer functions fully in Panther's Classic Environment. Sending and receiving mail work fine, but "collaborative tools and global address book" are no longer available.
