If reports in Nikkei (subscription required) and Reuters are to be believed, then Sony and Panasonic are about to team up to design and make OLED TVs.

The reports state that the potential Sony and Panasonic collaboration would begin churning out OLED TVs starting the 2015 financial year, which in Japan runs from 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2016.

Engadget has speculated that the partnership may employ Panasonic's OLED printing techniques to help drive the price of sets below the US$9000 mark that's being touted for Samsung's 55-inch OLED, which is set to launch at the end of year.

Both companies are currently struggling under the weight of surplus red ink. Sony recently reported an annual loss of ¥457 billion (AU$5.7 billion), while Panasonic lost ¥438 billion (AU$5.3 billion) in the last quarter alone.
