Panasonic Lumix Phone camera blower boasts more megapixels than a dSLR

Panasonic is teasing technology fans with details of a Lumix Phone, a camera phone based on Panny's popular compact snapper brand.

The Lumix Phone will feature a 3.3-inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi, and DLNA for zapping pictures wirelessly to your telly. It'll be a hefty 17.7mm thick and weigh 146g. The 13.2-megapixel image resolution would make it one of, if no the highest resolution camera phone out there, even beating the Nokia N8's 12-megapixel snapping.

Panasonic may not be a brand with a strong photographic heritage, but the Lumix brand has become synonymous with quality over the past few years. Cameras like the Lumix DMC-TZ8 and TZ10 and the Micro Four Thirds GF1 offer excellent build quality with great pictures, largely thanks to a long-standing partnership with lens experts Leica. The Lumix Phone may pack more megapixels than some dSLRs, but the lens and image sensor are the most important factors in such a small device.

The announcement was made by Panasonic Japan, so there's no word on whether it'll reach Europe or the US.
