Technology and food don't always make for a good combination.
We've all heard of the many dangers of processed food. And molecular gastronomy is cool and all, but I'm more of a simple kind of cook, using fresh ingredients and basic cooking methods.
But what happens when you have a late-night craving for cupcakes and you're out of eggs or milk? You could break into that forgotten bag of chocolate chips in your kitchen cabinet to feed your sugar habit, but in this case, some old-school technology can help you out.
If you live in the L.A. area, you could drive to the 24 Hour Sprinkles to get a treat from the "cupcake ATM." Sprinkles Cupcakes has stores in cities throughout the country, but the Beverly Hills location will have the debut automatic cupcake machine. The 24 Hour Sprinkles Facebook page says:
For Sprinkles addicts on the go, 24 Hour Sprinkles debuts as the world's first cupcake automat! This automatic cupcake machine dispenses freshly baked cupcakes, cupcake mixes, apparel and even cupcakes for Fido!
Since there is no Sprinkles Cupcakes store in San Francisco, I may have to head on down to L.A. to do some investigative reporting. I'll keep you posted if this turns into a two-part series.
