Outfitting networks for printers

Hewlett-Packard introduces new LaserJet printers that offer easier management in networked environments.

Hewlett-Packard (HWP) has introduced new LaserJet printers that offer easier management in networked environments.

The LaserJet 5Si NX is a 600-by-600 dots per inch printer that can produce up to 24 pages a minute. The NX includes an HP JetDirect internal print-server card for Ethernet 10BaseT and JetAdmin printer management software to simplify setup and administration.

HP says the new network-ready printer will be aimed at businesses that don't need PostScript features and the LocalTalk port for Apple-based networks offered in the 5Si MX.

The new LaserJet printer includes the following:

  • Three standard input sources, including two 500-sheet trays and one 100-sheet multipurpose tray. An optional 2,000-sheet input tray provides users with a fourth input source and a total capacity of 3,100 sheets.
  • A microfine toner and HP Resolution Enhancement technology (REt) to offer more than 120 levels of gray.
  • HP JetAdmin printer-management software provides LaserJet 5Si NX users and network administrators with tools to remotely use and manage all printers connected to the network.

The 5Si NX will be priced at $3,869 and is currently available, the company said.
