Order up: Oster's Digital Griddle can cook it all
The new Oster Digital Griddle with Removable Plate gets put through the paces.
Weekends mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Rest, relaxation, or even a chance to catch up on the chores that pile up during the week are all noble pursuits on Saturdays and Sundays. However, before any of that can get done, we are faced with the prospect of breakfast and a long morning to conquer it. Passing up the cereal, toast, or other weekday fare, we set our sights on what we really want to eat for breakfast: pancakes--preferably with sausage, bacon, and eggs.
With the weekend looming, I jumped at the chance to review the new Oster Digital Griddle with Removable Plate. The first thing that struck me was its size: this was a griddle for making some serious breakfast. Measuring 20 inches long by 10 inches wide, its nonstick surface offered plenty of real estate for my weekend breakfast. Cooking up a batch of sausage, bacon, eggs, and, of course, pancakes, I was able to create a full breakfast with only the one appliance.
With a row of breakfast sausage as well as three pancakes cooking all at the same time, I knew that I had found my go-to weekend breakfast maker. The batch of bacon I had cooked earlier was sitting off to the side, while the grease it rendered was channeled down into a convenient slide-out drawer in the front of the unit. (Of no small concern is the fact that this drawer is easily accessible, allowing one to season the griddle with bacon fat as needed.) With its no-nonsense control panel at my disposal, I was able to manipulate easily the griddle's temperature as needed. A large LCD panel displayed the temperature, while a "preheat" light alerted me to when the griddle was heating.
Overall, I have solid impressions of the Oster Digital Griddle. It's the size is perfect and cleaning it is a breeze. The removable griddle platter is dishwasher safe and snaps in and out of the unit easily. Its slide out drip tray is also dishwasher safe, but I found that they both are easily cleaned with warm soapy water; which is good news, because with the ease of use presented with this unit, I don't plan on waiting too long to get to it again--like maybe for lunch.
