Orange, a U.K.-based telecommunications company, has bought a cluster of four Dell Computer 6650 servers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS and Oracle 9i RAC, the companies said Wednesday. The four-processor rack-mounted servers will be used to store preferences for Orange's subscribers that govern what type of information they want to receive.
The system can record preferences for as many as 13 million users, and Dell said the deal was valued at about $160,000. It had been running on a Unix server from Sun Microsystems, Dell said.
