Oracle sharpens video image

The company will bundle Iterated Systems' ClearVideo to bring its still and moving image technology to the Oracle Video Server.

Oracle (ORCL) will include Iterated Systems' technology for publishing still and moving images onto private networks and the public Internet, the two companies announced today.

Oracle will resell Iterated's ClearVideo software and other "core video technology" alone and in bundles with the Oracle Video Server, the companies said. The database and server giant is still developing the video server technology and has said it will ship later this year. It will target Internet service providers and other Net content providers looking to use the bundle to put video "in the mainstream of their sites and businesses."

Today's announcement is part of a larger marketing and distribution relationship that will yield additional initiatives in the coming months, Iterated and Oracle said. Oracle already has pledged to help Iterated win broader platform support for its products "to ensure the widest usability across corporate intranets and the Internet," according to a joint statement. The companies did not specify when such support will be announced.
