The Optus Zoo, but the provider is making sure its customers still have plenty to entertain them. Popular video-on-demand service Netflix starts and Optus will be offering a free six-month subscription for the service to new and re-contracting customers on both home broadband and mobile.
Whilewas the first of the official Netflix partnerships, Optus quickly matched it, also making Netflix data-free on its fixed-line home broadband from April 17. Optus noted that this wasn't in partnership with Netflix, just something it was offering of its own accord.
The subscription deal announced today, however, is an official partnership with the streaming service. From March 24 until July 5 the six-month subscription deal will be available customer who sign up (or re-sign) to a 24-month contract on the following plans:
- Home broadband bundle, AU$60/month plan or above
- Postpaid mobile service, AU$60/month plan or above
- Postpaid mobile broadband, AU$30/month plan or above
At the moment it's unclear which ofthe offer will encompass.
Optus customers would also do well to note that the unmetered Netflix offer only applies to fixed-line home broadbnd customers. Mobile customers will need to keep an eye on that usage.
Launching the offer, Optus said that mobile customers could "get the most out of their Netflix subscription with automatic data top ups for AU$10 per extra GB". The telco did later note that one hour of Netflix streaming at Standard Definition would burn through 1GB of data -- 3GB if you want HD. Optus customers with long commutes might want to keep an eye on their usage.
