Optus brings more mobile connections underground on Sydney trains
A year after the NSW government announced plans to upgrade coverage in Sydney's inner-city rail tunnels, Optus has connected customers in the city's east.

A year after the New South Wales government announced a plan to upgrade mobile coverage in Sydney's inner-city rail tunnels, Optus has announced that its customers will now be able to stay connected underground from Redfern to Bondi Junction.
The telco switched on network coverage for the Eastern Suburbs line yesterday, meaning commuters will now be able to send text messages, make and receive phone calls and browse online, even while they're underground.
Optus Networks managing director Vic McClelland said the move was part of a larger drive to keep Optus customers connected while they travel.
"It's been a complex project, ensuring continuous coverage along Sydney's train lines and tunnels, but we know how important it is for our customers to be connected anywhere, on any device, and in particular, get the most out of their time spent commuting," he said.
Across they Sydney network, Optus now boasts "continuous mobile coverage" on the CBD North, Western line, and the North Sydney and Chatswood tunnels, as well as the City Circle tunnels.
