Optus announces Galaxy Tab pricing plus prepaid My Tab

Optus today piggybacked its Samsung Galaxy Tab pricing announcement with the news it would release its own Optus-branded Android tablet, dubbed My Tab.
The Galaxy Tab will be available on 24 contracts from November 10 for $0 upfront and AU$59.95 per month. This capped data plan offers AU$800 worth of data and equates to up 10GB of downloads during peak times or 20GB during off-peak times, plus unmetered access to Facebook, Twitter and Optus Zoo. These plans differ from the current iPad SIM-only data plans, which start at AU$20 per month for 2GB.
Offering an alternative to Samsung's premium tablet offering, Optus has partnered with manufacturer ZTE in developing the My Tab; a 7-inch Android 2.1-powered tablet with a 3-megapixel camera and a 2GB microSD storage card. Optus plans to sell the tablet with a prepaid mobile broadband SIM card for AU$279, which is akin to Testra's AU$299 price tag for its similarly specced T-Touch Tab. Both devices, the T-Touch and the My Tab, sport resistive touchscreens, but the My Tab's larger 3400mAh battery will hopefully provide a longer power cycle between charges.
The Galaxy Tab and My Tab will be the second and third Android-powered tablets to be sold by Optus after the telco launched the 5-inch Dell Streak tablet/smartphone earlier this year.
