OpenTV wins four patents

Interactive television software company OpenTV announced on Monday that it has been issued four patents since January. The European Patent Office issued one in January 2002 covering text- and data-compression techniques for set-top boxes. In February 2002, the European Patent Office issued another for transaction-based interactive TV systems and in March another for interactive TV security through the use of time stamps. The United States Patent and Trademark Office also issued the company a patent in February 2002 for the integration of new input devices, such as tablets, into set top boxes. The four patents bring OpenTV's portfolio total to 92 patents issued worldwide and 39 in the United States. The Moutain View, Calif. -based company has 253 patents pending worldwide.
