The Universal Serial Bus (USB) Implementers Forum on Wednesday released for public comment the proposed On-the-Go supplement to the USB 2.0 specification. The supplement defines a method for portable devices, such as digital cameras, MP3 players, handheld computers and cell phones, to communicate directly with one another--instead of requiring a PC as a go-between.
The 0.9 revision of the supplement is available at the USB Web site. Ratification of the 1.0 revision is expected by the end of this year after a public review period, according to the forum. The first product shipments based on the specification are anticipated in 2002.
