Illustrator CS only works properly in "Applications" folder Like a number of other Mac OS X titles, Adobe's Illustrator CS only functions properly when it is located inside the "Applications" folder on the drive where user settings are co-located. Corentin Cras-Meneur writes:

"I recently installed Illustrator CS on my Mac and it crashed every single time at startup (MacOS X 10.3.2). After spending quite a while on the problem and (mostly) with the help of a few friends, I realized what was wrong:

"My user folder is relocated to a second drive (through the Net Info Manager and backed-up by a symlink). Most of my third party applications reside in ~/Applications. If the 3D extension is active and the application is in ~/Applications, then Illustrator crashes. If the 3D extension is disabled, then the application launches fine. If the application is moved to /Applications instead, I can use Illustrator with the 3D extension. Distiller had similar issues and only works when located in the boot volume."
