Odds and Ends: Holiday Mac receivers might not be able to get Panther for 19.95
Holiday Mac receivers might not be able to get Panther for US$19.95 A Sacramento Bee article points out that some of the lucky individuals who receive a Mac for the holidays might have to shell out US$129 for Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) if it was not included in-box.
"Rather than handing out Panther upgrades to buyers when they purchase the computers, Apple is requiring them to order the upgrade by phone, fax or mail for $19.95, plus tax. But even that price might not be available to people who get a Mac as a holiday present. The deadline to mail in for the $19.95 upgrade was Wednesday. Phone and fax orders will be halted after Dec. 26, after which the price climbs to $129."
If you are planning on giving a Mac as a gift this holiday, you might want to request a Mac OS X 10.3 update (via the US$19.95 up-to-date program) via phone or fax -- soon.
UPDATE: Apple has just posted a message on its up-to-date Web site indicating that the program has been extended to January 31, 2004.
