Nvidia hones graphics programming tools

Graphics chipmaker Nvidia released Wednesday the second beta, or test, version of its Cg tools for high-level graphics programming. Nvidia announced Cg earlier this year as part of an industrywide drive to expand the role of PC graphics chips in executing programming instructions. Cg allows developers to write code for graphics effects in a format similar to that used in the family of C programming languages, as opposed to the time-consuming assembly-level programming previously required. The beta release is available now on Nvidia's developer site.
