NT Users Out of Luck With Gates's CD-ROM

Readers of Microsoft CEO Bill Gates's new book, The Road Ahead, are in for a surprise when they attempt to run the supplementary CD-ROM on Windows NT. No, nothing is wrong with your PC. The CD-ROM doesn't work simply because it's not compatible with Windows NT.

Microsoft officials said the CD-ROM software was written after the book was finished; they cited a tight deadline as the reason Windows NT got left out. Windows NT users need not worry. A compatible CD-ROM is in the works.

Next week, Microsoft will unveil future Internet plans that the company claims will place it ahead of competitors like Netscape. Microsoft will announce software designed to control commerce on the Net; Blackbird, a Net-content-developing tool; and a program, code-named Gibraltar, that allows merchants to set up shop online.
