Novell to buy application hosting firm

Looking to get a foothold in the applications service provider market, Novell says it will acquire privately held JustOn, a hosted Internet file and publishing service provider.

Looking to get a foothold in the applications service provider market, Novell today said it plans to acquire privately held JustOn, a hosted Internet file and publishing service provider.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

As previously reported, JustOn's hosted Internet services enable users to store, share, manage and publish files on the Internet.

Novell will integrate JustOn services with its Novell Directory Services (NDS) and Novell In-the-Net Services products in such areas as caching, directory, identity management and messaging.

Novell has said it plans to launch a series of Internet-based services and technologies this year. Among the technologies involved will be the firm's directory services, messaging software and Net caching system.

"In-the-Net Services are extending Novell's core networking strengths to the Internet and driving our growth as the broadest supplier of Web infrastructure software," Mike Sheridan, Novell vice president for strategic business, said in a statement. "JustOn's technology and expertise will help make file services a core element in the spectrum of In-the-Net Services that will be coming from Novell in 2000."
