Business software maker Novell on Tuesday released an updated version of its Extend Java application server software, which is designed to improve the ability to build a Web browser interface for accessing back-end databases.
Extend Application Server 5.0 is Java server software for building custom business applications. Novell acquired the software when it purchased SilverStream Software last year. The latest edition also adheres to the Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) version 1.3 specification. Another upgrade, due this fall, will include tools based on the World Wide Web Consortium's XForms standard for building Web-based applications. Novell intends to incorporate the Extend Java application server software with its NetWare version 6.5 operating system this summer.
