How much will Windows Phone 8 cost? The first prices for the Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820 have emerged from Europe.

Nokia Russia, Nokia Germany and Nokia Italy are first to show off the new Lumias, quoting prices of £517 for the 920 and £398 for the 820. How those prices will translate into Great British Pounds remains to be seen, but I suspect a few quid could be bunged on top courtesy of Her Majesty's taxman.

The 920, the flagship phone for Windows Phone 8, is slightly cheaper than the iPhone 5, which starts at £530. But it's still a lot of money for an operating system that has yet to establish itself -- and I say that as someone who loves Windows Phone.

The new Lumias are the first major phones to have wireless charging gubbins built-in, although we're yet to hear which British coffees shops or other partners are going to stick wireless chargers in their branches.

The first indications of Windows Phone 8 pricing came from HTC's Windows Phone phones, although those prices vary wildly. The 8X was first quoted as costing £400, before Amazon came up with a price closer to £530. The HTC Windows Phone devices are both decent-looking blowers, but that's still a lot of wonga.

The HTC 8X is a 4.3-inch phone with a 720p screen, 1.2GHz chip and 9-megapixel camera, facing off against the Lumia 920. The 820 squares up to the HTC 8S, with its 1GHz chip and 5-megapixel camera.

We're look forward to the new Lumias, even after Nokia was forced to apologise for faking video supposedly taken with the phone's camera.
