Nokia Lumia 41MP PureView phone confirmed for UK, says source

The Nokia Lumia 1020 PureView phone will be available in the UK, an industry insider has confirmed to CNET.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 will be bringing its 41-megapixel PureView camera technology to the UK, a telecoms industry insider has confirmed to CNET.

Our source wasn't able to give exact details on when it will be on sale in Britain, or how much it'll cost. It's being officially unveiled at an event in New York on 11 July, however, and we'd expect it to hit shelves roughly a month later. The Nokia Lumia 925, the Finnish company's last major mobile, took that long to appear after its unveiling.

The phone's official name wasn't confirmed, but recent leaks have indicated it to be the Lumia 1020, in line with Nokia's existing Windows Phone lineup.

With a New York launch and AT&T branding visible in leaked shots, it seemed possible that Nokia would be launching the phone as a US exclusive, much as it did with the Lumia 928. Whether the UK and other regions will see exactly the same phone or a variant of it remains to be seen.

The mobile will be the first Nokia Windows Phone to pack the 41-megapixel PureView camera technology. PureView made its debut on the 808 back in 2012, but its Symbian software made it an unpopular choice. Key specs are still unknown, but rumors hint at a 4.5-inch display.

CNET will of course be present at the official unveiling on July 11, so keep your eyes peeled over the coming days for more information.
