If you're thinking that these powered speakers look similar to the Audioengine A5+ bookshelf speakers we wrote about last year, we don't blame you. However, while those relied on a 3.5mm minijack or stereo analog inputs, this pair from Nocs is AirPlay compatible.
The NS2 Air Monitors by Nocs are the first speakers from the relatively new Swedish company and come in a choice of six different colors (as you can see above). The speaker enclosures are made of medium-density fiberboard with rubberized exteriors, while the 3-inch woofer cones are reinforced with Kevlar, a material used on some high-end loudspeakers by brands such as Bowers & Wilkins. The two-way speakers also come with 3/4-inch silk dome tweeters.
In terms of power, the NS2 Air Monitors are rated to pump out about 70W RMS with its class D integrated amplifier and 32-bit digital signal processor. We couldn't find any information on additional connectivity aside from AirPlay but figured the company should at least include a stereo minijack to connect non-iOS devices.
The Nocs NS2 Air Monitors are available now for about $400. Do check with distributors in your own country for more information.
