Thieves looking to score an easy payday by burglarizing the taco shop Frijoles & Frecas Grilled Tacos in Las Vegas have unwittingly become YouTube stars thanks to the creativity of the shop's manager, Greg Carlson.
By adding clever subtitles, Frijoles & Frecas turned security cam footage of the crime into a very funny commercial posted last week called "Burglars Just Want Tacos."
"We wanted a way to get the word out there, and thought we could reach more people by making it a little more light-hearted," Carlson told the Las Vegas Sun.
Smart thinking. The video has already gone viral, amassing over 2 million views and climbing.
In the commercial, the store's surveillance cameras spot a suspicious-looking guy get out of a car at 3:32 a.m. The caption reads "Guy wants a taco. Restaurant is closed."
He throws a rock to break the glass front door, but it bounces off and he fails to get in. "Sorry bros! Poor guy just wants a taco," the caption reads.
Additional footage from a different security camera then shows the burglars break in through another door around the back of the restaurant.
"The guy really wants a taco, and so does his homeboy," the caption reads.
Inside the taco shop, a security camera catches the duo frantically looking for the register, though the commercial's clever caption say it's really a search for delicious tacos.
They check a storage room, twice, to no avail. When they finally do locate the register and run out of the taco shop into a getaway car, the caption mocks them by saying their mom is picking them up.
"We take full responsibility for what our tacos cause people to do," the commercial adds.
The robbers got away with the register, which happened to be empty according to the video. Police are still searching for the suspects, who were caught on camera during their burglary on December 16. Call LVMPD Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 if you have any information or tips related to this crime.
