No Pixar film in 2014 due to reported production issues

For the first time since 2005, Pixar will go more than a year with no movie. Production problems on "The Good Dinosaur" force the studio to delay the film until 2014, reports The Wall Street Journal.

Pixar won't be putting out a movie in 2014, the first time since 2005 it will miss its annual production cycle.

Thanks to what the Wall Street Journal said are production problems on "The Good Dinosaur," which was supposed to come out next year, Pixar has decided to delay the film's release until 2015.

Though Disney wouldn't confirm the film's production problems, it did tell CNET that "The Good Dinosaur," which had an original opening date of May 2014, is now slated for a November 2015 release. That also means that Pixar's "Finding Dory," the sequel to "Finding Nemo," will be pushed back to 2016.

In a statement, Pixar said, "We continue to believe at Pixar, 'quality is the best business plan,' and we live by that. It is because of this we have decided to move the release date of 'The Good Dinosaur'...to ensure we make the best film possible."

According to the Los Angeles Times, Pixar recently took director Bob Peterson off "The Good Dinosaur," and has yet to name a replacement. The Times said that this was the fourth time in the last eight films that Pixar has changed directors midstream.

The delays are unfortunate, given that the clips Disney and Pixar showed of "The Good Dinosaur" at the D23 Expo last month suggested a rich, creative, and beautiful film.

The delay and rescheduling of both "The Good Dinosaur" and "Finding Dory" won't affect the release of "Inside Out," Pixar's summer 2015 film, the studio said in its statement.
