Nissan unveils virtual future supercar
Nissan released photos of its Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo today, a concept car made for the Gran Turismo game, but hinting at a future model.
Automakers usually show off their latest concept cars at auto shows, but Nissan has been dribbling out teasers about its Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo over the last few weeks, with more to come in July. However, unlike a traditional concept car, this one will end up on the virtual racetracks of the Gran Turismo 6 video game.
Gran Turismo 6 creator Polyphony Digital has encouraged every automaker with cars in the game to come up with a Vision Gran Turismo concept that players can add to their virtual garages. We have seen cars from the likes of Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Mitsubishi, but now Nissan unveils its entrant.
The Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo not only works as a car for the game, Nissan says it serves the traditional concept car model by showing what a future Nissan supercar could look like. And 'Nissan supercar' pretty much means GT-R.
The concept includes many design elements reminiscent of the GT-R, such as the slash headlights and roofline. Nissan also specifies that the car is a 2+2, with two doors, similar to the current GT-R. However, there is no mention of engine type in the current release.
Nissan has a long history with the Gran Turismo racing franchise, and Polyphany Digital actually designed the screens for the performance computer in the actual GT-R. Nissan, with its luxury brand Infiniti, is also out to bolster its performance credibility, the new Q50S Hybrid being an excellent example of what the company can put on the road.
We will know more about the Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo's performance specs when it gets released for the Gran Turismo 6 game in July.
