Nikon adds Wayport Wi-Fi to Coolpix
Nikon adds free Wayport Wi-Fi access to its new Coolpix S610c digital camera. The Wayport access lets users upload images wirelessly from more than 10,000 locations in the U.S.
While many might still be questioning the usefulness of Wi-Fi cameras, I'm not one of them and neither is Nikon. The Coolpix S610c marks its sixth generation of cameras with integrated wireless. This time around, owners will be able to get wireless service from Wayport at more than 10,000 locations nationwide. This includes the more than 9,700 participating McDonald's restaurants and major hotel chains. Each S610c ships with a free subscription to Wayport's Wi-Fi service, valid until August 31, 2011.
Combine that with a One Touch Email button and Nikon's my Picturetown photo storage Web site, and you have a complete solution for uploading images without the aid of a computer.
Of course, there's more to the S610c than its Wi-Fi. It packs all the same features as the C-less S610 including the sub-one-second start-up time, 10-megapixel sensor, a 3.6x Zoom-Nikkor wide-angle glass lens, Optical Vibration Reduction Image Stabilization system, and a 3.0-inch LCD screen.
The Coolpix S610c will be out in September 2008 in midnight black only and cost $329.95.
