Nicki Minaj offers to cover college costs for Twitter followers

For a little under an hour, the rapper and pop icon went on a weekend charity spree for collegiate Twitter fans with good grades.

A promotion to join pop icon Nicki Minaj at this year's Billboard Music Awards took a turn late Saturday night when one Twitter follower asked if Minaj could help pay off his college expenses, instead of flying him to Las Vegas.

That kicked off a charity spree that saw fans flocking to Minaj with funding requests to help cover everything from tuition to textbooks. Most requests were relatively modest in the context of college costs, ranging from a few hundred dollars for one fan to several thousand dollars for another.

All told, Minaj replied to dozens of fans, offering to pitch in with their expenses in exchange for proof of good grades. There's no official word on how much Minaj will pay out in total, but most exchanges ended with her requesting each fan send banking info over private direct message.

"I'll do some more in a month or 2," Minaj tweeted out after about an hour of back and forth with her followers. She didn't immediately respond to a request for further comment.

At any rate, it's good to know that hard work in school still pays off (provided you're following the right celebrities on social media).
