News.com wins trio of awards
CNET's news arm takes home three awards from the 52nd annual "Maggie" magazine awards, sponsored by the Western Publications Association, in its latest editorial honors for this year.
News.com won first place for the best online news story, titled "A Mortal Microsoft;" first place for the best online article for "Cracking the Nest Egg," on online banking; and first place for best online interview or profile for "The Peacemaker," on AOL Time Warner's Richard Parsons. CNET.com won honors for the best regularly featured online column, for Inside @ccess
The WPA's Maggie awards honor journalistic excellence in both print and online publishing. The awards were presented at a ceremony in Los Angeles.
This year, News.com has received numerous editorial honors, including the following:
• The American Society of Magazine Editors nominated News.com as a finalist for the National Magazine Award in the "General Excellence Online" category, which recognizes "outstanding magazine Internet sites."
• News.com reporters won three awards from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers, the largest association of journalists in North America that is dedicated to promoting superior coverage of business and economic events and issues. The awards will be presented in a ceremony at the Boston Globe on April 28.
• News.com reporters Richard Shim and Jim Hu were named to the NewsBios "30 Under 30" list, which honors young journalists who impact the nation's business news profession. The list also includes reporters from The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Fortune and The Washington Post. The reporters will be honored on May 8 at the Nasdaq office complex in New York.
• News.com was a finalist for the 2002 Investigative Reporters and Editors Awards for "Cracking the Nest Egg." The IRE recognizes outstanding investigative work in print, broadcast and online media.
