According to a , a California-based upstart company called Ambarella has created a line of processors that might push high-definition video cameras below the $1,000 mark. Three camera companies have already expressed interest in the chips and have begun experimenting with them. Currently, the cheapest high-definition camcorder available is the Sony HDR-HC1, which can be had for just under $2,000. If Ambarella's tech is adopted by camcorder makers, it could finally put high-def video within reach of consumers.
