New Treo Mail from Handspring

Handspring announced on Monday version 1.5 of its wireless e-mail application for Treo handhelds, called Treo Mail. With the new version, the Mountain View, Calif.-based device maker adds support for Lotus Notes and allows messages to be sent automatically while other programs are running. When Treo communicators use the application on high-speed wireless CDMA 1xRTT and GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) data networks, mail can be sent to the device faster and be updated more frequently than on older and slower data networks.

Treo Mail is available in two versions: The $49.99 Internet Edition accesses POP3 Internet e-mail accounts; the $99.99 Corporate Edition accesses Outlook/Exchange or Lotus Notes/Domino e-mail accounts behind corporate firewalls. The application is available for a free 30-day trial from the Handspring site. Current Treo Mail customers can upgrade to version 1.5 for free.
