New site connects alumni

A company that has brought college alumni together through its print directories for years has made the transition to the Web.

Find your college classmate on the Web? Why not, says a company that today launched a product to do just that.

For years the Bernard C. Harris Publishing Company has provided a college alumni directory business for print. Today it launched the Alumni Connections On-Line Communities for graduates to find new and existing contacts on the Internet.

It is the latest example of a print company expanding to the Web to capture new business.

Alumni Connections will provide features such as an online directory; a career center that offers resume and job postings, educational forums, and free alma mater email addresses. Business yellow pages also will be available for alumni to post their own advertisements.

Users will pay $19 for a six-month online subscription, or they can pay $59 for a hard-bound copy of the information and get free access to the online product for five years. The company also is considering running ads on the Web site.

Schools such as Cornell University, Harvard University, the University of California at Berkeley, and Dickinson College, among others, already have signed up to participate.
