New MacBook Air models are set for a June or July launch, according to sources close to Taiwanese manufacturers in Apple's supply chain.
Updated versions of both the 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch laptops will be tweaked to include Intel's new Sandy Bridge chipset and Apple's high-speed Thunderbolt ports, DigiTimes reports.
Apple sold more than 1.1 million of its latest MacBook Air during the fourth quarter of last year, making it one of the company's hottest-selling Mac products ever. A genuine design classic, the ultra-slim Air currently uses Intel's Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of RAM and Nvidia GeForce 320M graphics as standard.
Although it hasn't even been a year since the October launch of the previous Airs, the desire to make Thunderbolt a standard feature means new lineup of MacBook Airs isn't entirely surprising.
The iMac was also overhauled earlier this month. The all in one desktop computer boasts Thunderbolt and FaceTime video-calling and looks identical to the previous model overall. The MacBook Pro got the treatment in February.
