Are you spending enough time with your family? A new smartwatch from Japan will let you know if you're not.

Tokyo-based Veldt has developed a smartwatch that can monitor the amount of time you spend with your family members.

The Tottori West Family Time Watch tracks the time a you spend with your child. You give the child a beacon that communicates with the watch when you're within 30 metres of each other. The accumulated time is displayed on the watch, and you'll be sent an alert if you don't hit Veldt's targets.

The watch was created as part of a Japanese government program encouraging people to move the the rural part of west Tottori. Each family that's moved has been given a smartwatch to make sure the parents are spending quality time with their children.

The watch also has plenty of regular smartwatch features including step and sleep tracking, email and social media notifications, according to Nikkei Technology.

Smartwatches have had a recent boost thanks to the release of Android Wear 2.0. The updated operating system boasts NFC Android Pay and and more watch face customisation. The first watches to adopt the operating system are the LG Watch Style and LG Watch Sport.
