For those hotly anticipated mobile games, sometimes you just want to be able to jump on the bandwagon as soon as it pulls out of the station. Pokemon Go is a great example, particularly because the release was staggered all around the world.
Now, finally, with the announcement of Nintendo's flagship IP coming to iOS in the form of Super Mario Run, Apple has implemented the option to be notified of a new release.
Instead of the "Get" button, Super Mario Run's iTunes page, launched ahead of the game's upcoming December release, has a big orange "Notify" button. When you click it, a pop-up will tell you that you'll be notified, possibly via email or push notification, as soon as the game is available.
The feature is currently only for Super Mario Run as far as we can tell. Whether it will apply across the entire app store is yet to be determined. It's also unlike the "Pre-order" button from the music and film sections of the iTunes store, since it doesn't give you the option to purchase the content ahead of time.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
