'Ghostbusters' laughs back at YouTube trolls in added scene
Who ya gonna call when haters leave mean comments on your videos? "Ghostbusters" actors Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig reveal that they mock angry online fans in a scene from the new film.
If you love "Ghostbusters," chances are you already know all too well the controversy ping-ponging between diehard fans over whether the mostly all-female "Ghostbusters" reboot starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones will be funny or is just a gimmick to sell tickets.
Some people can't wait to see what "Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig does with the well-known humor tropes from the original '80s "Ghostbusters," but due to the vocal critics who absolutely hated the trailer -- currently at 914,452 dislikes out of 35 million views -- Feig asked his cast to ad lib a scene in which their characters respond to negative comments on a video they just uploaded on YouTube.
"I feel like the part was in [the script] already," Wiig said in a Yahoo video interview. "But we changed what was said."
Continued McCarthy, "You have a great script that Paul and Katie Dippold wrote. What's so great about Paul is that on the day, we get what's written and he says, 'Now have a little bit of fun with it.' It doesn't mean you go wildly off topic or try to switch stories, but you can change it up just enough to really surprise who you're talking to."
"Ghostbusters" opens in theaters on July 11 in the UK, July 14 in Australia, July 15 in the US and August 11 in Japan.
