Netscape to plug eBay on Netcenter

Web trading community eBay and Netscape Communications today announced that they will expand their marketing relationship by promoting eBay services on Netscape's Web portal Netcenter.

Web trading community eBay and Netscape Communications today announced that they will expand their marketing relationship by promoting eBay services on Netscape's Web portal Netcenter.

eBay was already being promoted on Netscape's Netcenter as a "distinguished provider" but the new agreement will allow eBay to gain exposure from greater targeted placements on the Netcenter starting page and across its key channels.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

eBay, founded in 1995, is a site devoted to person-to-person online trading of collectible items, including antiques, books, stamps, and coins, and jewelry.

eBay will be bookmarked on Netscape Communicator (version 4.0 and higher) client software. Netscape will also provide eBay exposure to European and Canadian audiences, coinciding with the launch of eBay's international pages in Canada and the United Kingdom this month.

This relationship will continue to evolve over time to include additional advertising across the site and within the Netcenter Newsletter.

"We are delighted to move into the next stage of our relationship with Netscape, one of the largest and fastest growing Internet portals," Steve Westly, vice president of marketing and business development at eBay, said in a prepared statement.
