Netscape releases beta Navigator 3.0

Netscape Communications has quietly released an early beta version of Netscape Navigator 3.0, code-named Atlas, on the Internet.

Netscape this week has quietly released an early beta version of Netscape Navigator 3.0, code-named Atlas, on the Internet.

The new browser, which is available on the company's file transfer protocol sites, comes with several new add-on programs that enhance the multimedia capabilities of Navigator. They include two new plug-ins: Live3D, a virtual reality modeling language viewer, for navigating three-dimensional environments, and a video plug-in for playing AVI movies.

There's also a helper application, CoolTalk, for conducting audio and data conferences over the Internet. CoolTalk will allow users to have telephone conversations over the Internet at 14.4 Kbps and higher connection speeds. The data conferencing capabilities include a real-time chat and whiteboard tool.

Navigator 3.0 also comes with new security features, including password protection and digital certifiactes.
