Netiva ships Java database tool
Netiva starts to ship of Netiva 1.0, its Java-based development software for network-based workgroup databases.
Instead of HTML, SQL, and CGI script, the Netiva tool lets developers work in a forms-based environment within a Web browser, the company said. The tool consists of a Designer, Server, and Java client component. The Designer is the development environment and runs on a client desktop machine. Once the application is built, it moves to the Server component, which runs on Windows 95 and NT. At runtime, users point their browsers to the server and download the Java client.
Currently Netiva is designed for smaller, department-based databases such as sales forecasting, project tracking, and contact management. Netiva-built databases will support interaction with enterprise databases through SQL by the end of the year, the company said.
Pricing for Netiva 1.0 starts at $299 for a five-client license. A 100-client license costs $4,999, and other licensing options are available.
