Netflix has announced its first Australian original series, "Tidelands," which will be made available on the streamer globally.
The show follows a former criminal who returns home to her small fishing village, where a local fisherman's body washes ashore. A mystery unravels involving half-Sirens and half-humans called "Tidelanders." It makes sense --- we are girt by sea, after all.
"We're proud these strong Australian storytellers are bringing their vision to the first Australian Netflix original series," said Erik Barmack, vice president of international original series at Netflix. "We can't wait to bring the mystery of 'Tidelands' to our members around the world."
Netflix has been testing hiking up weekend prices in Australia, which could happen in a matter of weeks. Its other Australian content includes "Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries" and "The Code."
Production for "Tidelands" will take place in Queensland, starting in 2018.
