Net security group releases updated tools

The Center for Internet Security (CIS) announced last weekend that it released updates to several of its tools for flagging vulnerabilities in various operating systems. The tools--called benchmarks--measure the security of a particular installation of an operating system by checking for known vulnerabilities and system settings that decrease security.

The latest updates include benchmarks for Cisco Systems' IOS router software, Red Hat Linux 9, and additional features for detecting flaws in HP-UX installations. The group also released an updated tool for Windows operating systems to take into account the latest security issues. The tools are available for download from the CIS Web site.
