NEC will unveil new computers for corporate users on Monday, expanding its line of PowerMate desktop PCs.

NEC is introducing the build-to-order PowerMate ES (Enterprise Solution) and PowerMate VT (Value and Technology) series, targeted at small to medium-sized companies.

NEC is currently in a slump, recently cutting 15,000 jobs amid serious losses at its U.S. arm, NEC Packard Bell. NEC is expected post a loss of $1.25 billion for this fiscal year.

The PowerMate ES features what NEC calls a "universal motherboard," which can be used in desktop computers of varying sizes. Common components among different models ease the process of qualifying technology for corporate environments, NEC said.

Toshiba offers similar features in its Equium corporate desktops, which features slide-out motherboards for easier servicing. The PowerMate ES line will be priced from $899 to $1,999.

The PowerMate ES series will run on Intel Celeron, Pentium II, and Pentium III processors. Additionally, the systems are designed with a front-mounted USB port.

The PowerMate VT, targeted at education and home office users, and starts with a 4.3GB hard drive, CD-ROM drive, and Celeron, Pentium II, or Pentium III processor. The PowerMate VT series will be priced from $799 to $1,999.

Both new lines are available immediately.
