NEC cuts price of Versa notebooks

NEC reduces prices on its Versa line of notebook computers by up to 17 percent.

NEC announced that it is cutting prices on its Versa line of notebook computers by up to 17 percent.

The Versas, which use Pentium processors running at 100 and 133 MHz, will get price cuts in the 6000, 4200, and 2400 series, including the following models:

--The 6010H, which has a 11.3-inch active-matrix screen, 133-MHz Pentium with 16MB RAM, 1GB hard drive, 6X CD-ROM, and 28.8-kbps modem was priced at $4,599 and is now priced at $3,799. The 6030X with Zoomed Video and 12.1-inch display was priced at $5,399 and is now priced at $4,799.

--The 4200, which has a 10.4-inch active-matrix display, 100-MHz Pentium, 810MB hard drive, and 16MB RAM was priced at $2,999 and is now priced at $2,699. The 4230 with a 133-MHz Pentium, 1GB hard drive, and 6X CD-ROM was priced at $3,899 and is now priced at $3,499.

--The lowest priced Versa model, the 2400, which has a 11.3-inch dual-scan display, 100-MHz Pentium, 810MB hard drive, and 16MB RAM was priced at $2,199 and is now priced at $1,999.
